\u201cI feel rather bewildered\u2014do you? The future looks so higglety-pigglety.\u201d Mischievous, reclusive 19th-century Emily Dickinson invites you into the parlour for a heart-to-heart. Join her as she\u00a0navigates tumultuous times while facing\u00a0loss, fraud, and fear–with wit, grit, and phenomenal poetry.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>This one-woman show premiered to standing ovations at the 2025 Montreal Fringe.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Step into the\u00a0<\/span>parlour for tea and town gossip with the brilliant, witty, and enigmatic 19th<\/sup> century poet Emily Dickinson, The Belle of Amherst. This multi-award-winning one-woman play based on the reclusive genius\u2019 writings and poetry features actor Ren\u00e9e Bucciarelli, whose work has enjoyed past praise from The New York Times.<\/em><\/p>\n

The Roedde House Museum<\/span><\/a><\/span>, a special piece of local history that was home to Vancouver\u2019s first bookbinder, provided an ideal period setting for Emily Dickinson\u2019s seemingly fathomless exploration of words, of a vibrantly-lived inner life, and of love. Audience members of this intimate performance found\u00a0themselves transported back to an elegant time, with live\u00a0piano\u00a0music from Miss Dickinson’s own playbook, and tea served in china cups,\u00a0offered with\u00a0Emily Dickinson\u2019s famous \u2018black cake\u2019<\/span><\/span>.<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n

Emily Dickinson has inspired countless plays, novels, children\u2019s books, contemporary poems, dances, performances, and artworks, as well as over 1,600 musical compositions, a Simon & Garfunkel song and, more recently, a chart-topping rock album by Italian singer\/supermodel (and former French First Lady) Carla Bruni-Sarkozy. Of Miss Dickinson\u2019s boundless ability \u201cto have made all things new\u201d renown literary critic Harold Bloom has pronounced \u201cThe Myth\u201d\u2013as she was called in her time\u2013an equal to Shakespeare.<\/em><\/p>\n
